Ans When
Jonti switched on the torch, the boys saw that on the left side of the shed sat
two massive bulls with a pile of hay in front of them. In the right- hand
corner, the elephant calf was tied to a thick wooden pole.
2 What
made the guard wake up and jump to his feet?
Ans When
one of the bulls let out a loud bellow, the elephant calf got nervous and
squealed. The sound awoke the guard and he jumped up to his feet.
3 How
did the baby elephant break free and go out of its enclosure?
A.
Jonti and Dhanai cut the ropes that tied the
calf. When Babul hit the calf on its back, the calf ran out of its enclosure.

happened when Nalia and his friends tried to cut off the baby’s escape route?
Ans When
Nalia and his men tried to attack the calf from all directions, the calf
slipped through a gap between them and ran in to Nalia’s hut, breaking it.
5 Why
were the boys worried when Nalia wanted to get the koonki?
Ans The
boys were worried because they knew that the calf would not have a chance to
escape if the trained elephant was brought.

Ans The
three boys were not only brave, but also kind and clever. They were good
friends and wanted to treat animals with love and care.
